A platform for dental education and dental CE

The problem dental educators describe

Dental education combines scientific knowledge, clinical judgement and manual skill, and much of the best teaching lives in faculty lectures, case discussions and study-club presentations. Dental schools want to extend that teaching to postgraduate and alumni audiences. Associations and CE providers want to offer more online activities between meetings. Specialist practices and groups want consistent training for dentists, hygienists, assistants and practice teams.

The obstacle is the same in each case: building a structured online course with good assessment takes far longer than giving the lecture it is based on, and faculty are practising clinicians with little spare time. General course platforms help with hosting; content libraries rarely reflect a school's or association's own approach.

Accuracy matters as much as in any clinical field. A course that carries a school's or association's name must not drift from the evidence, and learners' questions need answers grounded in approved material rather than a general chatbot's guess.

How Perceptors works for dental education

  1. Define the programme. The programme owner sets the audience (for example general dentists, hygienists or postgraduate residents), learning outcomes and the credential to be issued.
  2. Fix the sources. Faculty supply the lectures, clinical guidelines, papers, protocols and case material the course may draw on.
  3. Agents draft. Specialist agents map statements to sources, draft modules and outcomes, write case-based questions with answer rationales and prepare translations. A quality agent flags gaps and unsupported statements.
  4. Faculty approve. Four approval gates hold the course until the subject lead, programme editor, clinical reviewer and programme owner have signed off. Nothing publishes on its own.
  5. Learners study with a grounded guide. Learners ask questions and get answers from the approved sources only, with the source shown.
  6. Maintain. When evidence or guidance changes, updates are proposed, reviewed and released through the same gates.

Who does what

The programme owner, such as a postgraduate director, association education lead or CE manager, shapes the brief, outcomes and launch and approves each release. Faculty and clinical reviewers inspect evidence, objectives, case questions and changes before approval. Learners follow a guided path, ask grounded questions and see their progress. Administrators monitor cohorts, permissions and completion across courses.

Faculty spend their time on clinical judgement rather than course production, and the school or association keeps a clear record of the sources each course used and who signed it off.

Questions to ask any dental education platform

  • Can it build a course from our own lectures and case material, and show the source of each statement?
  • Who approves each course and question before learners see them, and where is that recorded?
  • How does it handle learner questions that the course does not cover?
  • What records does it provide for our CE provider or accrediting body?

Example programme

No dental programme is published on Perceptors yet. The structure is the same as live programmes such as the GCLS AI in Healthcare Certification, a certificate for physicians, clinical leaders and healthcare executives with 11 modules and a capstone, and Hormonaly Skin Longevity, a set of live courses on skin longevity. A dental school or association would follow the same path from brief to approved release.

What Perceptors does not do

Perceptors does not award dental CE credit and is not an accredited CE provider; credit comes from the accredited provider running the course. It does not replace hands-on clinical teaching or assessment. It makes no blanket compliance claim: security, privacy, hosting and retention requirements are agreed with each organization during discovery. Case material should be de-identified before it enters a source package.

Frequently asked questions

Can a dental school use Perceptors for postgraduate or alumni courses?

Yes. Faculty lectures, guidelines and case material can form the source package, and courses are delivered under the school's brand.

Can Perceptors award dental CE credit?

No. CE credit is awarded by an accredited provider. Perceptors provides the assessments, certificates and records that provider needs.

Does it work for the whole dental team?

Yes. Programmes can be built for dentists, hygienists, assistants or practice teams, each with its own outcomes and assessments.

How are clinical cases handled?

Cases should be de-identified before they are added to the source package. Agents draft case-based questions from them, and faculty approve each question before release.

How do we start?

Start with a briefing on one course: audience, outcomes, sources and reviewers. A partner evaluation can then test it with real learners.
